Becoming Aware of Your Body

What is your body saying? Are you listening?

We quickly recognize body pain – a headache, shoulder pain or a bad back. But, how connected are we to our bodily sensations during the course of the day?

I would venture to say – not very much. We are a “neck up” society, spending so much time in our heads. The average person has over 50,000 thoughts per day. It’s easy to get caught up in the busyness of our minds and then not pay attention to our bodies.

Yoga is so popular because it helps people slow down and connects the mind and body. The results of body awareness are tremendous! I am not telling you to do yoga, although it can be pretty awesome! What I am saying is to pay attention to what is going on in your body this week.

Feel your shoulders. If they are up, relax them. Notice your posture. Are you hunched over or leaning forward? Straighten your back and stand tall. Be aware of your body and what it is trying to say!
