Loosen Up

You don't have to work so hard.

I don’t mean we should all lie around on the sofa and expect things will be great, but we often make life more difficult than it needs to be.

I recently had an experience that made me aware of this. I realized that pressuring and pushing myself more doesn’t always lead to better results.

A few weeks ago, I joined a tennis clinic after years of not playing. After a few lessons, my elbow began to hurt as it did many years ago. I almost decided that tennis wasn’t for me. I told the instructor about my pain; he watched my serve, he confidently said that I was trying too hard, and told me to just loosen my grip.

At first, I argued “No! I won’t have the same power!” But after practicing the “new” way—OMG, my elbow didn’t hurt and my serve was so much better. I thought to myself, “Wow—this is like life. You don't have to work so hard to get great results.”

We should all do our best, loosen up and LET GO!

Technique of the week: Notice when you are over pressuring yourself. STOP and ask if it is really necessary. Therein lies the power. The first step toward any kind of change is AWARENESS!
