MESSAGES & SIGNS
How would your life be different if you knew you were being guided?
We all get messages and signs. Some are big and some are small. As a wise person once told me: “There's no shortage of signs”.
We just need to be aware of them; the song that you keep hearing, the license plate initials of someone special, the person you were thinking of that you “just so happened” to bump into.
You can call them coincidences if you choose, but what if they were messages that you are connected to the universe, on the right path, and are being guided by something much larger than you?
Imagine how your life might be different if you believed that a higher power had your back and…..along with your head and heart, was guiding you through life.
Try it this week. Become aware of any sign. At all. Trust that you are being given a message.

CLOSE YOUR SHADES
Sometimes we all need to just shut down for a little while.
Closing your eyes is like closing your shades. You shut out the visual distractions.
Then... bring your attention to your breath going in and out of your nose. This will slow down some of the many mental distractions.
This week, set aside a few minutes each day to just… close your shades. Listen to your breath and be still. Notice how you feel.

YOU DECIDE
People will treat you the way that you allow them to. We all know that we can’t control what others say and do- but….. we can decide how we will allow them to speak and behave toward us.
We do this by being clear about what is acceptable to us and as kindly as possible expressing our feelings. The key is not to engage if another is not respectful of our wishes.
Sometimes it is easier said than done- but it is a practice. The clearer you are within yourself (about the way you want to be treated) and the more you hold on to your self -respect, honor your feelings, and stick with the practice- the easier it becomes.
Watch and see how things can change!

BE KIND TO YOUR MIND
I know that sounds weird but it’s true. We need to be more intentional about everything in our lives including taking care of our minds.
With all the negativity in the world and all the distractions we have it’s challenging to keep a peaceful positive mindscape.
Here’s a few ways to try:
Say something kind to yourself about yourself every day!
Do a kind action for someone else every day!
Get outside and just sit still. Look around you. Look up at the sky. Consciously appreciate the nature around you!
If you nourish your mind, it will nourish you!

YOU'VE GOT THE POWER
You may not realize that you have the power to make someone’s day better- but you do!
It doesn’t matter who or where it is. This week be intentional about making someone feel comfortable or happy or even just heard!
At night before you go to bed - ask yourself. Whose day might I have made a little better today?
This releases your “happy hormones.” Feel good and sleep well! 😴

NOT ALL STRESS IS BAD
Positive stress or eustress is a term used when you view a stressful situation as an opportunity that can lead to a good outcome. This “good stress” is in contrast with negative stress or distress which occurs when you perceive a stressor as a threat that will have a poor outcome.
The way a person responds to a stressful situation determines whether they will experience eustress or distress. Feeling resilient and knowing you have what it takes will make all the difference!
It is important to be proactive in managing the stress you are experiencing. Here are a few things you can do:
Develop a Mantra – for example “I can do this.” Say it throughout your day – to reinforce your feelings of efficacy.
Get Organized- Make a list of tasks and number them by order of importance.
Stay Refreshed- eat healthy foods, drink plenty of water, move your body, get enough sleep, take breaks in your day, get into nature.
A positive response to a stressor can motivate you to deal with a challenge or accomplish a task. In the end, eustress can lead you to feelings of satisfaction, accomplishment and wellbeing.
YOU GOT THIS!

APPRECIATION IS CHEMICAL
It can be magical for both people when you say thank you for a specific “act” or “thing”.
For example, Thank you for listening. Thank you for going with me to test drive the car two times. Thank you for dinner. You get it.
It feels so good to be appreciative and grateful. Being specific makes it even more meaningful.
Feeling these positive emotions releases oxytocin, a hormone associated with pleasure, connection and trust, as well as dopamine and serotonin which contribute to an overall sense of happiness and well-being.
This week - make it a point to share your appreciation for everything you can! See how you feel. ❤️

YOU DO YOU!!!!
I love the saying “What others think of you is none of your business.”
It makes a lot of sense. Don’t let the opinions of others affect you. I know it’s easier said than done, but like so much of what I share- it’s a practice. It's a reminder to be yourself in all situations and to focus on living your life.
When you base your thoughts and actions on what others may be thinking, you give away a lot of power and you put tremendous pressure on yourself!
This week, notice when you are focusing on what you think others are thinking of you. Practice saying to yourself “NONE OF MY BUSINESS.”
YOU DO YOU!!!!!!

IF YOU HAVE TO FORCE IT...
If you have to force it- it’s not right.
My ears perked up when my yoga teacher recently said…“It should be natural- if it’s not- go only as far as is natural.”
I loved that. While she was obviously referring to getting into yoga poses, I related it to real life.
We all know what it's like to push for something; a relationship, an answer, even trying to make clothing fit right. Do what you can (have that difficult conversation, practice patience, go to the tailor) but eventually, if it still isn’t right, it ISN’T right.
Don’t try to force things; let them flow.
This week- pay attention to when you are striving for something to work – that just isn’t. Practice- letting go. You will feel SO much better!

HAPPINESS IS...
I was recently asked “What does real happiness mean to me?” The first thing that came to my mind was the ability to derive joy from the littlest to the biggest moments in our lives.
I personally have had some very special milestones occur recently. My son got married, my boyfriend’s son had a healthy beautiful baby girl, and my precious granddaughter had her naming ceremony and first birthday.
Clearly these are VERY big events and have brought SO much joy to our lives. However, in doing the “work” and practicing the tools I share – I also celebrate the little moments a lot!
I savor my delicious cup of four sigmatic coffee every morning, I am soaking up these glorious fall days, I appreciate getting into a comfy bed after a nice warm bath, etc., …. you get it.
This week, up your gratitude practice and pay extra attention to the little things that make you feel good.

LABELING CAN BE GOOD
Here’s a technique from my book, “The Recipe For Real Happiness,” that people have told me has helped them a lot.
Remember the last time you felt upset. Try to relive the experience. Close your eyes and notice what you are feeling in your body, especially your neck, shoulders, maybe your heart beats a little faster or your palms get sweaty.
Label what you are feeling: I feel angry; I feel confused; I feel dismissed.
Putting words to your feelings can give you some distance from the emotion. The next time you are feeling angry, sad anxious or any strong negative emotion label your feelings. “I feel _______.” This allows you to feel more separate from the emotion and to respond intentionally, rather than reacting automatically and unconsciously.

DECLUTTER AND GET ORGANIZED
There is a direct connection between living in an organized home environment and your mental health.
Sometimes the actual act of cleaning and decluttering can boost your mood, improve focus, and (believe it or not) enable you to feel more in control of your life!
Evidence suggests that having a messy, cluttered environment can create stress and anxiety and are often linked to negative emotions like confusion, tension, and irritability.
An organized home produces more positive emotions like calmness and a sense of well-being. The simple sight of a clean and organized home can often help people unwind and de-stress even after an overwhelming day.
Commit to doing one thing around your house or apartment each day. Before you know it, your environment will be much cleaner and less stressful.
